Tammy Waugh was born and raised on a farm near Summerside PEI. She currently resides in Red Deer with her husband Frank. They have three daughters, two of whom are federal employees.
Tammy's first work experience with government was in June 1975 at the surveys and mapping division in Summerside when she was hired as a microfilm technician. When the summer job finished, Tammy accepted a clerical position with the company. In October 1984, Tammy began working with Veterans Affairs Canada in Charlottetown (PEI) as an administrative assistant. She laterally transferred to DND in May 1987 and held several administrative positions in training with 880 Squadron, and civilian staffing at CFB Summerside until the base closed in 1990. Ms. Waugh then took a leave of absence from the public service to work as the executive assistant to the president of Slemon Park Corporation (SPC), the company created to privatize and redevelop the base. Tammy was promoted several times at SPC and left her last position as marketing & PR director in December 1994 when she & Frank moved to Terence Bay (NS).
Tammy's 24-year career with the RCMP began in January 1995, initially as a coordinator of a crime prevention community project and then as an administrative assistant with the RCMP Tantallon Detachment. Two years later, Tammy became a dispatcher in the RCMP HDIV Operation Communications Centre (OCC) in Halifax and was sworn in as a civilian member. In the spring of 2006, the OCC moved to Truro (NS) and Tammy spent 2 years there before accepting a lateral transfer to the RCMP GDIV OCC – Yellowknife (NT), in July 2008. A year later, she was promoted to an OCC supervisor and became the OCC training coordinator. Tammy was promoted again in 2012 as an operations manager at the RCMP KDIV Southern AB OCC (SAOCC) and she transferred to Red Deer in October of that same year.
Retired since April 2020, Tammy and Frank are enjoying life in Red Deer and especially spending time with their two grandsons. Both are Federal Retirees members and they believe in the organization's vision. Tammy was elected as vice president of the Red Deer Branch at the 2021 AGM in April. She is looking forward to working with the local branch and encouraging her fellow retired public servants to become Federal Retirees members.
