What is the Office of the DND/CF Ombudsman?

The Office of the DND/CF Ombudsman is a direct source of information, referral and education. It will help you access channels of assistance or redress if you have a complaint or concern.

What does the Ombudsman do?

The DND/CF Ombudsman investigates complaints and serves as a neutral third party on matters related to the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces. If you are a member of the Defence community1 and feel you have been treated unfairly, or would like information about how to resolve a problem, contact the DND/CF Ombudsman's Office.

How can I submit a complaint?

Members of the Defence community can submit a complaint to the office by completing the secure online complaint form or calling toll-free at 1-888-828-3626 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Eastern time), Monday to Friday.



  • 1A current or former member of the Canadian Armed Forces 

  • A current or former member of the Cadets 

  • A current or former employee of the Department of National Defence 

  • A current or former non public fund employee  

  • A person applying to become a member  

  • A member of the immediate family of any of the above-mentioned personnel  

  • An individual on an exchange or secondment with the Canadian Armed Forces
