COVID-19 Emergency Loan Program for Canadians Abroad

The government is recommending that travellers find out what options are still available to return to Canada and consider returning as soon as possible. All Canadians abroad are also encouraged to register with the Registration of Canadians Abroad service to get the latest updates on the situation at their destination.

To help Canadians abroad return home, the Government of Canada has created a special financial assistance program, the COVID-19 Emergency Loan Program for Canadians Abroad. With this program, Canadians outside the country who are directly impacted by COVID-19 will be able to apply for an emergency repayable loan to facilitate their return to Canada and to cover basic essential needs while they work towards their return.

How to apply

Eligible Canadians currently outside Canada and needing help to return home can contact the nearest Government of Canada office or Global Affairs Canada’s 24/7 Emergency Watch and Response Centre in Ottawa at +1 613-996-8885 (collect calls are accepted where available) or email sos@international.gc.ca.
