Paul Davis, a Vancouver branch director who resides in the Yukon, met with Dr. Brendan Hanley, MP for Yukon in August. Dr. Hanley is the Yukon’s only MP.

Davis prefaced the meeting by noting that there are 350 Federal Retirees members in the Yukon. He also noted the Yukon’s demographics are changing rapidly to an aging population, with most retirees staying to retire in the Yukon, which was not the case two decades ago. This makes it more important now than ever before that federal retirees’ voices are heard in the Yukon — and all across Canada.

Davis brought copies of the Federal Retirees leave-behind leaflet with him and used this document to focus the meeting on Association advocacy priorities — retirement income security, a national seniors strategy, veteran well-being and pharmacare.

Special focus was given to long-term care standards, pharmacare and improving services for veterans.
