Public servants' pensions and benefits are earned supports, not extras, and they play an essential role in well-being during retirement.
A fair retirement starts with promises kept.
Why this matters
Fairness in retirement is built on trust, the trust that commitments made to public servants will be upheld long after their years of service.
Federal retirees earned their pensions, health and dental care benefits through that public service. These programs are essential to their health and well-being. But pay system problems and questions about pension fund management have raised serious concerns about fairness and sustainability.
Retirees and employees deserve reliability and accuracy in their compensation — whether it’s regular pay, vacation pay or benefits. Compensation was negotiated as part of employment agreements, and employees rely on those commitments being honoured.
What we’re calling for
We’re calling on the federal government to address long-standing gaps and follow through on its promises to federal retirees.
- Ensure the Pensioners Dental Services Plan meets the needs of today’s retirees, by funding long-overdue enhancements.
- Consult with Federal Retirees on how to reinvest the surplus in the Public Service Pension Fund (PSPF), including in ways that benefit the retirees who helped create it.
- Implement special retirement benefits for front-line federal public servants in physically and emotionally demanding roles.
- Resolve Phoenix pay issues for retirees by establishing a formal appeals process and taking concrete steps to ensure fair, accurate compensation.
