Welcome to the Regina & Area Branch of the National Association of Federal Retirees. In addition to our regular events, from time to time you'll find information here on Association advocacy work as well as national events.
We have now been able to resume "business as usual" with in-person meetings and events. We were able to have our fall supper last September. In February we had a brunch and recruitment event held at the Wascana Golf and Country Club. We were honoured to have Russell Mirasty, Saskatchewan's lieutenant governor and his wife Donna attend. 119 members attended this function and it was a great success. We had over 10 members who registered but didn't attend. As we paid for the brunch for these individuals we were disappointed that they missed such a enjoyable event.
We are now looking forward to the annual general meeting and Luncheon on April 15, 2024 and, of course a fall supper and recruitment event again in September. It takes considerable time and people to put on these functions, as well as the regular duties of the management committee. The branch would like to have more members available to volunteer to assist with these events. Federal Retirees membership is open to federal retirees, judges, RCMP retirees, Veterans and spouses. It doesn’t appear to be common knowledge that membership is open to potential members prior to retirement. We continue to explore ways of informing potential members. It has become more challenging since few departments offer opportunities, such as pre-retirement courses, to address gatherings. We wish to affirm a more rounded approach to retirement to include support for older adults and support by older adult volunteers. There are so many opportunities for personal growth and fulfillment.
It has been a pleasure, albeit a little hectic at times, to serve as the president of a great team.
