25th Annual Report to the Prime Minister on the Public Service of Canada

Michael Wernick, the Clerk of the Privy Council, Secretary to Cabinet and Head of the Public Service, recently delivered the 25th Annual Report to the Prime Minister on the Public Service of Canada for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2018.

The Clerk highlighted the many achievements of the public service in serving Canadians and delivering on the Government’s agenda. He notes with pride their ranking as the most effective public service in the world in the International Civil Service Effectiveness Index for 2017.

The report also notes that the public service is a strong and proud institution that is values-driven and made up of passionate people from across the country who come to work every day to make a difference in the lives of Canadians.

He says that paying public servants accurately and on time is his top priority and he has asked his deputy ministers to inform him of their actions to stabilize the pay system and to provide emergency salary advances and priority payments to employees who are facing hardships.
