Volunteers with Federal Retirees’ Vancouver branch secured a meeting with local MP Parm Bains to talk about long-term care and home care.

In June, the Vancouver branch advocacy team met with one of their local members of Parliament — Parm Bains, MP for Steveston—Richmond East — to discuss implementing national long-term term care and home care standards.

Branch secretary Ian Sanderson, branch director Beverly Segal, branch director and meeting organizer Deborah Turner and branch member Cindy Rozen met with MP Bains and his staff Jose Villagra, Hanna Grewel and John Gao.

“The discussion was productive and flowed freely between all participants. The MP had not previously met any of the Federal Retirees members present. He was knowledgeable about the issue as he recently held a town hall that included this subject,” reports Turner.

This was the first face-to-face meeting for most of the current advocacy team of the Vancouver branch of Federal Retirees.

“MP Bains and his team were very welcoming and collaborative. The branch advocacy team had a positive experience and are feeling encouraged to plan their next meeting with an MP,” says Turner.
