Federal Retirees volunteers are making a difference in their communities!
As part of Reach 338, branch volunteers are teaming up to organize MP meetings and discuss Federal Retirees priorities.

On Nov. 6, Bob Manuel, president of South Shore branch and Bill Sproul, president of Western Nova Scotia branch met with Chris d’Entremont, member of Parliament for West Nova, as part of Reach 338.

Branch presidents Manuel and Sproul provided an overview of the National Association of Federal Retirees, its membership and priorities.

Conversation began with a focus on older adult care, particularly recent concerns brought to light during the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for national standards for long-term and home care and a national seniors strategy.

Discussion then turned to the ways secure, defined pension plans benefit the economy and bring security to older adults, the many challenges facing veterans seeking assistance, and support for the creation of a national pharmacare program.

“As we were wrapping up the meeting, Mr. d’Entremont asked if there was anything else he could do, such as attend an event to meet members and speak to them, or put something in his constituency newsletter,” says Manuel. “He also committed to discuss these issues with his shadow cabinet and the shadow minister for Seniors – a couple items we will be sure to follow up on with him!”

“At the end of our meeting Mr. d’Entremont encouraged us to stay in contact as Federal Retirees priorities evolve,” adds Sproul. “We consider this to have been a very worthwhile visit and look forward to meeting again in the future.”

Later that day, MP d’Entremont posted about his meeting with Federal Retirees on his Facebook page, bringing even more visibility to our priorities.

Chris d"entremont mentions Federal Retirees on Facebook.
