Canada is the only country with universal health care that does not also offer universal prescription coverage, and that fragmentation means that Canadians pay among the highest drug costs in the world.

Last month Federal Retirees supported Bill C-213 – Canada Pharmacare Act. Over 3,000 members sent letters to the health minister, health critics and their local MPs.

Ultimately, the bill did not succeed – but we know pharmacare is still important. Federal Retirees will continue advocating for a national pharmacare program as the best way to ensure that Canadians, including older Canadians, can access and afford the medications they need to stay healthy.
