Implementing national standards for long-term care, home care and other older adult care will ensure a baseline level of quality care for older Canadians, regardless of where they live.
Last month, Federal Retirees launched its long-term and home care campaign with the goal of getting governments to truly commit to improving older adult care. Over the coming months, Federal Retirees will advocate for governments at all levels to work together to reform older adult care and implement national standards for long-term and home care.
We know that this issue hits close to home for the Federal Retirees community, and many of you have been deeply affected by the long-term and home care crisis in Canada. The changes we’re pushing for will improve the lives of everyone who relies on these types of care, and we’re keeping these people in mind as we develop our campaign, even though we may not always say so explicitly.
As the first step of our campaign, we asked you to send a letter to your local representatives to let them know that this issue should be a priority, that governments must address the problems in long-term and home care once and for all, and that we need national standards for long-term and home care to ensure equitable and quality care for all Canadians.

Federal Retirees has also been busy connecting with government officials to advocate for long-term and home care reform. In mid-August, we sent a letter to the federal and provincial representatives responsible for health care and older adults, urging them to implement national standards for long-term and home care. We are now sharing this letter with you.
